I seem to have been working on Bug 2152 (allow multiple stickies) forever. However I have reached the final stretch and am trying to test it. I want to test that it behaves sensibly with different account types (Free, Paid, Permanent) which are each allowed a different number of stickies.

Previously I've changed users account levels on my Dreamhack by logging into the system account and then using Capability Edit on the admin page. However this doesn't appear to be working. I can switch beta features on and off from capability edit, but don't seem to be able to upgrade a Free account to a Permanent Account - or at least I can check and uncheck the boxes but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Any idea what may have gone wrong? Could I have messed up my database somehow?

What works for me: still in Admin Tools, use Payment Managements to give paid time, turn into seed account of force back to free. You may need to give your system account the payments priv in the first place by going to Privilege Management.

Edit: if I'm not mistaken Cap Edit will let your account have the perks of a paid or perm account --such as letting you have upload icons-- but doesn't change your account type.

^^ this! /admin/capedit will give you the features, but not 'count' the account as paid/perm/etc.

The exact steps:

1) Go to /admin/priv while logged into an account that has admin:* and grant yourself the 'payments' priv
2) Go to /admin/pay
3) Enter the username you want to make paid/premium/seed/etc
4) On the next page, pick the account type from the dropdown. If it's paid/prem, add in a number of months, too; for a seed account you can just pick the account type.

That will upgrade the account 'normally'.
